Removals Grove Park

Removals around Grove Park — farmland until the railway arrived, and briefly home to Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

Grove Park was mostly woodland and farms — Burnt Ash Farm and Grove Farm gave the area its old and current names — until the railway station opened in 1871 and made the area newly attractive to commuters. Development picked up properly once the line was electrified in 1926, and Lewisham Council built the 44-acre Grove Park Estate between 1926 and 1929, acquiring Chinbrook Meadows at the same time as a recreation ground.

That gives Grove Park a more spacious, suburban feel than areas closer to Lewisham town centre — semi-detached and detached houses sit alongside terraces, on wider streets than the Victorian rows further north, and the area sits right at the southern edge of the borough on the boundary with Bromley. Chinbrook Meadows itself was enlarged in 1937 and now includes a peace garden opened in 2009 by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who lived locally in the 1970s.

Being this close to the boundary, we regularly cover moves that cross into or out of neighbouring Bromley postcodes as well as within Grove Park itself.

Moving in and around Grove Park

Grove Park's wider, more suburban streets — a direct result of the 1920s estate planning — generally make van access straightforward compared with the older, denser parts of the borough closer to Lewisham town centre.

FAQ

Common questions about moving in Grove Park

Do you cover moves that cross into Bromley from Grove Park?

Yes — Grove Park sits right on the Lewisham/Bromley boundary, and we cover moves in either direction across it.

Are Grove Park's houses larger than elsewhere in Lewisham?

Semi-detached and detached houses are more common here than in denser parts of the borough, a legacy of the 1920s estate being built with more space to work with — tell us the size of your property and we'll size the team accordingly.

Is Grove Park close to Hither Green?

Yes, they're direct neighbours, and both sit close to the Corbett Estate's Edwardian streets — see our Hither Green removals page for that area specifically.
